Why You Should Get In A Moms Group This Year

It’s the first full week of a new year and many of you are thinking about how this year could or should look different from last year. One thing I want to encourage all of my moms to do is to start doing mom life in community with other moms.

It’s hard to find encouragement and wisdom in the middle of our busy lives. And unless you are looking for it, it’s not just going to randomly find you! That’s how Birds on a Wire got its start. I wanted to gather some moms around me who I knew needed it and pour love and encouragement into them.  And as BOAW has grown, it’s why we are focused on growing not our Instagram account or our book sales, but the number of moms who are in a BOAW group.

A Birds on a Wire group is just a group of moms intentionally pursuing wisdom related to motherhood and encouraging others by sharing the ups and downs of mothering. When you’re in a circle with other moms, you can lean on one another, pray for one another, and carve out intentional time in your week to focus on your hardest job, mothering.

You don’t need permission from your church, a PhD in parenting or a fancy house with a formal living room. We have BOAW groups that meet around kitchen tables, ones that gather over lunch at the office, and even groups that have grown so large they are taking over church sanctuaries.

Because we always have questions about what it looks like to start a group, we’ve devoted several episodes of our podcast, Wire Talk, to talking about how to get (and keep) a group going and to answering questions you may have about your group. I’d love for you to listen to Episode 92, Episode 143, or Maria’s story of starting her group from Episode 193.

I want this for all of the moms connected to BOAW in 2020. What have you got to lose? Gather a few girlfriends, pick a curriculum and begin intentionally walking alongside one another on your journey of motherhood this year.
