Get in the Word today with Karen’s Devotional for Moms

Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Question 1: Would you tell the moms listening who may not know you a little bit about yourself and how you got to be the crazy internet sensation that you are? What was the video or the blog post that started it all?

Question 2:  Obviously, your social media presence is significant.  It’s part of this new online economy to be making posts, creating videos, keeping in touch with your followers. A lot of moms struggle with comparison on social media - how do you fair when it comes to the comparison trap?

Question 3: Susannah you are obviously a gifted storyteller, anyone watching your videos can see that. And you’ve just published a brand new book, Can’t Make This Stuff Up! which is a memoir full of your family’s stories. I just got back from vacation where I read the whole thing and I just love that your faith is such a prominent part of this book. You talk about your mother’s strong faith and your father’s struggle with addiction to alcohol, and you share how in spite of witnessing how that hurt their relationship and your dad’s relationship with you, you also struggled with drinking - to the point of getting a DUI and losing your license. I know a lot of listening moms are doing their very best to model faith and bring their kids up in the Lord; what words of encouragement can you offer to those moms who are doing all the right things and still watching their kids make wrong choices?

Question 4: Some of the stories you tell in this book are straight up hilarious - but there’s also a lot of hard stuff that you don’t gloss over. You write about being home at a young age when your father had a heart attack and more recently the death of your mother. We recently had an entire show on the topic of processing grief in motherhood - moms that was episode 159 if you missed it. We are always encouraging our moms to make the time to care for themselves because we need to be healthy and our families need us to be healthy - How did you process the loss of your mom in the midst of the demands of motherhood? How did you care for both yourself and your family during that season?

Question 5: You have a LOT of irons in the fire, between being a mother (to 2 older children AND a newborn), writing, beauty sales, book club, etc.  How do you keep from burning out?  What refuels your soul?
