Are Date Nights Really That Big Of A Deal?

Moms, date night is about a whole lot more than just getting out of the house or not cooking dinner. Date night is a conscious choice to put your husband first in the family. Every time you make plans for a date with your spouse, you are showing him, your children, and anyone else watching that your marriage is a priority.

Think of your marriage like a car. You’ve got to do regular maintenance on your car to keep it running. You can also think of your marriage like a bank account. At the bank you make withdrawals and deposits, and in marriage we do the same. Date nights are one way to consistently make deposits into your account. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we wanted to help you out with some fun new ideas for date night, ideas that won’t necessarily break the bank. So on Wire Talk this week, we shared amazing ideas from moms from all over the country. Here are a just a few:

  • Grab an inexpensive paint-by-numbers set and have a date night in.

  • Swap date nights with a trusted friend and watch each others’ kids so you’re not paying for a sitter each time!

  • Swing by a coffee shop, grab a fancy drink and drive through your dream neighborhood with your spouse playing “The Price Is Right” home edition.

You and your spouse make withdrawals from your “marriage account” everyday:

“I need to work late again tonight…”

“Will you move the laundry over to the dryer?”

“Can you pick up diapers on the way home?”

“The baby is sick and I have a big meeting. Can you stay home today?

Withdrawals are normal and they are required for a family to function! But keep in mind that you need to be depositing as much or more than you are withdrawing, in order to keep the balance of your marriage strong and healthy.

Your goal is to get to the empty nester years and be more in love with your husband than you are today, and in order to  accomplish that you must pour into your relationship!
