Handling the Holidays During a Pandemic

It’s been a HARD year mommas, so as we approach the holiday season for 2020 I want to give you all a few tips:

1. Give yourself permission to do things differently this year. Maybe instead of trick or treating, your family watches a movie and does a hide and seek for candy in your home this year - that’s okay! Maybe instead of traveling to family and having a traditional Thanksgiving meal, you order in a take out feast. Our favorite family traditions were just born, I didn’t plan them or think about them, they just sort of happened. That’s the best kind in my opinion. Who knows, maybe you’ll stumble into a new tradition that your kids beg to repeat next year!

2. Watch your own attitude. I know many of you aren’t going to be able to travel or be with friends and family for the holidays like most years. Remember that your kids take their cues from you. They will remember the example you set; if you’re bummed about it, they’ll be bummed too. If you set the tone with a good attitude about doing something new, they just might pick up on that too! An attitude of gratitude for what you can do is the way to go.

3. No matter what your plans are for the holidays over the next several weeks - make sure that you and your spouse are on the same page. The holidays can be a minefield of expectations and carry the potential for hurt feelings and miscommunication. Have a conversation early on about what your hopes and desires are for the holidays this year and keep communicating.

Above all, give yourself grace and try not to stress! I am praying for you, mommas!
