Your Hands Are Full: An Encouragement for Moms

There is a common statement given to moms with toddlers, then again when moms have teenagers, and it is this: “You have your hands full.” I have been guilty of saying the same thing to moms.  I don’t mean it in a negative way, just honestly acknowledging that a mom’s hands are full with little ones or could be full with a rebellious teen or even full with athletes and ball schedules, or dance schedules with little girls. The point is…a mom is busy!

Recently, Kelsey visited for an extended stay. We LOVED having her and her children in the house. The joy that children bring cannot be matched. We would constantly talk about how adorable and smart Evie was, and then of course how snuggly and sweet little Chapman was. But, ladies, parenting two children under 2 is no joke and it’s not for the faint of heart. One day, I encouraged Kelsey to go on an outing with her sisters. I volunteered to watch the little ones. The children were incredibly good, but my hands were full. I remember, Evie was taking a nap, Chapman was also asleep and I made a pan of brownies.  I thought, ”I’ll just sit down for a moment while the brownies cook and rest a minute.” My bottom had not hit the sofa before I heard Chapman crying. What came to my mind was, “Oh, I remember these days and poor Kelsey has just started!”

Moms, your hands are full. But, full of wonderful and amazing things! You are the teacher, the nurse, the cook, the housekeeper; you are the counselor and the all time best mom in the world to your children. Keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged. Your days are long and HARD, but so worth it in the end. Hang in there! You are doing an amazing job!

Love you all,
