Our Father, Who Art In Heaven...

What is prayer and why do we pray? That’s what we’re talking about this week within our community.

Put simply, prayer is a conversation with God. Prayer is a way we communicate with our Father in heaven and a way we hear from him. Paul says to pray without ceasing, which means, be in constant conversation with God all day.

We mommas are familiar with all different kinds of prayers. We’ve prayed desperate prayers, the ones that come in gulps and sobs when you receive unexpected news. We’ve prayed traffic prayers and carpool prayers and midnight feeding prayers. We’ve prayed bedtime prayers, the ones we’re not sure we ever finished come morning. We’ve even prayed some morning prayers too, fresh and hopeful with cup of a coffee and open Bible in front of us.

Here’s the thing moms. God wants a relationship with you, and prayer is a way to welcome that relationship into your life. Don’t miss out on that invitation! Open up your heart, and share with God the highs and lows.
Ask God to take your heavy burdens from you, and replace them with His peace and joy.

Above all, just PRAY.

Even when you don’t have the words. In the book of Romans, Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit will intercede for us with the Father. That means he’ll make our case for us. When we don’t know what to pray, God himself fills in the words. Moms, prayer is the #1 tool in your mama toolbox. Don’t ever underestimate prayer. It’s your not-so-secret weapon.

Practice this posture of surrendered prayer this week: with your palms down in front of you, verbally lay whatever it is that you are struggling with before the Lord. Say out loud, “Lord I give [this situation] to you.” Then, turn your palms up and open them to God saying, “Yet not as I will, but as You will.”
