WT 193: Saying Yes to Community
On today’s episode, Maria Shanlian from the Birds on a Wire group in Wayne County, OH joins Karen and Sunny to share what happened in her community when she and a friend said yes to God’s prompting to pour into the moms in their community. Maria shares the hesitations they had, how God confirmed this calling, and how they went from 35 moms to more than 125 moms in just two years.
We think what’s going on in Wayne County is inspiring and we are praying hearts are stirred by this conversation!

Question 1: There has been an explosion in groups growth over the past year at BOAW, which is so exciting. Would you take a quick minute Karen, to talk about Birds in general and how it is structured? I think a lot of moms find the podcast but don’t know about groups, or they have joined the FB community and have no idea about your curriculum or the books you have written. Can you give us a State of the Union so to speak on BOAW and especially our groups since we are talking about community today?
Question 2: Maria, can you tell us how you discovered BOAW?
Question 3: What was it that made you go from, “this teaching is good for me” to “I want to share this with other moms”?
Question 4: Did you start meeting at your church right away? How were you able to get the support that you have now from your church?
Question 5: How many moms came to that first group and how many do you have at your meetings now?
Question 6: Can you tell us how you have structured your group and why you think it’s working well that way?
Question 7: What would you say to a mom who has a desire in her heart for more community, but she’s scared to go first or she doesn’t know who she would even ask to join her group?
